Nice church, not really historical.
It is a very large church with the relic of Sister Maria Gabriella inside... suggestive to visit....
The medieval parish church dedicated to Saints Cornelius and Cyprian (now disappeared) with the passing of the centuries proved to be increasingly unsuitable for the growing population of Dorgali. During 1700, therefore, the decision was reached to expand the pre-existing church of Santa Caterina in the Sa Serra district in a more convenient position for the population. The works began on 24 April 1737, probably by Tuscan workers, and continued until June 1745, the year of the solemn inauguration.
The works were almost entirely financed not only by the parish, but also by donations of money or work from the Dorgali population. The construction of the new parish church and the annexed rectoral rooms, both characterized by considerable dimensions compared to the churches in the surrounding area, made Dorgali a possible seat of the reconstituted Diocese of Galtellì abolished in 1495. The murder of Monsignor Francesco Cao, envoy of the bishop of Cagliari , however, it definitively put an end to the candidacy of Dorgali as the seat of the new diocese in Barbagia and the Baronies. It was precisely then that Nuoro's candidacy took hold and the reconstitution of the diocese took place there in 1779.
Rock-style church, white with external buttresses, but strangely located in the center of the town.
We recommend maximum tension when reaching it by car, given the typology of the roads in Dorgali, which are more similar to gutturi than real roads, but on the other hand the viability of the town center and the limit, but also the characteristic of the town.
Highly recommended
Visited for a wedding. Beautiful church and noteworthy frescoes. The church choir is fantastic. You could listen to it for hours
It has always been my parish since birth. Thanks to it I was able to keep my Christian faith intact.
Easy for me....made of beautiful memories!!
Cute little church with beautiful altars. And frescoes enrich the exterior buildings.
